Engineering at Propelland

In your day-to-day role, you will:

  • Work and play between the realms of design and engineering with the focus on bringing ideas to life
  • Be our in-house maker and DIYer to build magical prototypes from low fidelity to production engineering
  • Thrive in a fast-paced studio across a variety of consulting work.
  • Support the team throughout the full design thinking process and participate in design team reviews, sharing, and brainstorming by providing a technical feasibility perspective.
  • Proactively explore new technologies and processes for rapid prototyping

Requirements:

  • Suitable Degree in Software Engineering and/or Interaction/UI design or any other related field with hands-on experience in designing and building things.
  • 1-2 years of experience in bringing ideas to life
  • Has exposure to no-code platforms like Webflow/Bubble/IFTTT etc
  • Has experience building apps for android and/or iOS
  • Can build simple web-based prototypes using HTML/CSS/Javascript
  • Basic understanding of creative coding libraries like p5js/Processing/Open Frameworks
  • A believer in the power of iterations and experimentation
  • Understanding of design process and practices
  • An amazing portfolio that reflects expertise in prototyping

ROLE DESCRIPTION

As a Strategy Lead in North America, you will be responsible for growing our client accounts, acting as a strategic advisor to provide insightful recommendations, and supporting the project team’s work. In order to enhance the team’s impact and add value to people and the planet, you will work cross functionally with strategists, designers, and engineers to balance desirability, feasibility, and viability considerations in all project deliverables. You will understand the client’s business needs, define a strategy for uncovering opportunities, and deliver compelling business cases to support continuation and expansion of work. By delivering excellent work, you will build strong relationships with our clients and help us grow within their organizations.

You will have 5+ years of experience working in an environment that requires the following skills, including previous project and client management experience: 

  • Human-centered design 
  • Service design 
  • Design research 
  • Business design, and/or  
  • Customer experience projects 

In your day-to-day role, you will:

  • Build a strong trusted advisor relationship with key client stakeholders that are Director, VP, SVP or C-level

Role description 

As an Interaction Design Lead at propelland you will lead cross-functional teams across multiple projects to create integrated design solutions for a diversity of industries, scale and mediums. As a Senior Design Strategist at propelland, your role is to guide project teams and provide strategic oversight to successfully identify and manage tradeoffs between business and user needs.   • You’re a strategic thinker able to tackle complex problems, addressing fundamental user needs and deliver impact. You will collaborate with strategists to synthesize and communicate research findings, identify areas of opportunity, and conceptualize ideas; 
  • Craft compelling user experiences, and visualize them through user journeys, service blueprints, and mock-ups and prototypes that communicate design details and rationale.
  • You envision versions of features thinking towards the future, and working on the first iterations of those features to innovate new products, services, or experiences.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Suitable Degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/Electronics Engineering and/or Interaction/Industrial design or any other related field with hands-on experience in building things
  • 1-3 years of experience in bringing ideas to life
  • Design for manufacturing experience
  • Experience with fabrication techniques like CAD ,3D printing, CNCs, PCB etching, other cool things.
  • Can build things using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Particle Photon, or any other embedded system of choice
  • A believer in the power of iterations and experimentation
  • Understanding of design process and practices
  • Has exposure to no-code platforms like Webflow/Bubble/IFTTT etc
  • Can build simple web based prototypes using HTML/CSS/Javascript
  • Basic understanding of creative coding libraries like p5js/Processing/Open frameworks

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Lead industrial design and prototyping project teams, guide the design process and deliverables, track challenges and identify solutions, and ensure our work exceeds expectations. 
  • Foster positive relationships with our existing clients and upsell or cross-sell new projects. Build relationships with new clients and bring in projects and build business. 
  • Build proposals for ID projects, estimate scope, timelines, and resource needs. 
  • Develop strategically positioned concepts from design principles and constraints using visualization, CAD modeling, rendering, and prototyping. 
  • Collaborate with engineers to fabricate aesthetic and functional prototypes that can be brought to life through manufacturing. 
  • Collaborate with strategists to synthesize and communicate research findings, identify areas of opportunity, and conceptualize ideas. 
  • Craft compelling user experiences, and visualize them through user journeys, service blueprints, and presentations that communicate design details and rationale.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in industrial design, product design, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of professional industrial design experience. 2 or more years at a design consultancy is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience leading design teams, managing projects, and interfacing directly with clients.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong visualization, CAD modeling, prototyping and fabrication capabilities.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and knowledge of common manufacturing methods.
  • The desire to continue learning new skills, improve your craft, and grow as a designer and leader within our team.
